Understanding Results

SmartBroom 4 measures force and stroke frequency. Use the live view for immediate feedback, or open Review → SmartBroom 4 and select a session and sweep to look more closely.

Read a sweep

Measurement What it tells you
Force How much force you apply through the broom. The app shows average and peak readings for push, pull, and plow activity.
Frequency How quickly you repeat sweeping strokes, shown in hertz (Hz).
SPI Sweeping Performance Index combines force and frequency into one comparison value.
Duration and strokes How long you swept and how many strokes were recorded.

Push and pull separate the two parts of the sweeping motion. Plow covers activity where the broom applies force without the same repeated push/pull pattern.

Use Settings → Units to display force in kilograms or pounds. Compare measurements using the same units.

Look beyond a single peak

In a sweep's detail view, look through the Force Chart, Frequency Chart, and SPI Chart to see how your sweeping changes over time. A peak shows a brief maximum; the average helps you assess what you sustained.

SPI is useful for comparing force and stroke rate together. It is an index, rather than a measurement of calories or physical power. Look at force and frequency alongside it to understand why it changed.

Compare sweeps

Open a session in Review to compare its sweeps. Choose the chart metric you want to examine and filter by sweeper when more than one person is included.

For useful practice comparisons, record who swept and add notes about the drill or technique. See Live Sweeping for recording and Sessions and Downloads for finding and exporting data.
