Connecting¶
Connect your SmartBeams to the SmartBeam app using its Bluetooth scanner.
Before you start¶
Turn on your SmartBeams and enable Bluetooth on your phone.
Allow SmartBeam's Bluetooth access when iPhone asks for permission.
Allow Nearby devices access. If the app shows Bluetooth Access Needed, tap Continue and allow the permission.
If the scanner shows Permission Required, tap Open Settings and enable Nearby devices permission for SmartBeam, then return to the app.
Open the scanner¶
On first launch, the welcome flow includes a scanning step where you can connect your units.
To open the scanner again, use the button at the top right of the app:
Tap the antenna icon with radio waves.

Tap the Bluetooth icon.
Connect your SmartBeams¶
- Find a unit in the Discovered list. Each row shows its name and case colour to help you choose the right one.
- Tap Connect beside it.
- Wait for the unit to appear in the Connected list.
- Repeat for each SmartBeam you want to use.
When all the units you need appear in the connected list, close the scanner using the × button.
Reconnecting¶
The app remembers units you connect to and attempts to reconnect automatically when it discovers them again. Turn on your SmartBeams and open the app, then check the scanner's connected list.
If a unit appears in the discovered list instead, tap Connect beside it.
Disconnecting¶
Open the scanner and tap Disconnect beside a connected unit. This leaves the unit saved in the app, but stops automatic reconnection for the current app session. To reconnect it during that session, find it in the discovered list and tap Connect.
Next step¶
Once your units are connected, follow Setting up Beams to assign them to locations on the sheet.
